The project duration time of the network "Sex/Gender sensitive research in Epidemiology and Medicine" ended in June 2014.

The project Epi goes Gender at the Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology - BIPS will be continued and update this website continuously.

Welcome

... to the website of the network “Sex/Gender sensitive Research in Epidemiology, Neurosciences and Genetics/ Tumor Research”.

Medical and health related research are important areas of action for sex/gender sensitive approaches. The relevance of biological, sociocultural and psychological aspects is evident in both areas. The integration into the research and health care routine, however, has not been completed yet, thus possibly posing a negative impact on the quality of research and health care services. Sex/ gender sensitive basic and applicational research is required for the development of adequate health care for men and women.

This network aims to contribute to the integration of sex/gender perspectives into epidemiological and medical research. The included areas of research will develop exemplary concepts, methods and further training to resolve problems with the integration of sex/gender perspectives into research routine.

The network encompasses the following three sub-projects:

  • Epi goes Gender (Link)
  • Gender sensitive concepts in neuroscience (Link)
  • Gender sensitive concepts in genetics/ tumor research (Link)

A network coordination has been established for the integration of the sub-projects and the sub-project comprehensive taskse.

The network “Sex/Gender sensitive Research in Epidemiology, Neurosciences and Genetics/ Tumor Research” receives funding from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the European Social Fund of the European Union (ESF) for three years.
